It’s Spring in the Northern Hemisphere (although there’s still 12 inches of snow outside of MY office.) And with that comes “Spring Cleaning.” Whether you find it a refreshing time of reflection and abundance, or a dreaded chore, these tips should make the process easier and more fun.

Step 1 - Get yourself ready. Without your own preparedness, you may have to interrupt your flow several times to compensate. Put comfortable supportive shoes on - when you stub your toe on the corner of your desk - your tootsies will be glad they weren’t bare! Crank up the volume on energetic and motivating music. Grab tools for sorting(storage bins or garbage bags work fine), cleaning recycling, notepad & a pen. If you use a timer a la “Flylady,” bring that & use it, too!

Step 2 - In your office, look at it with a fresh pair of eyes. If you were a neighbor walking in to this, what would look out of place? Do you see trash, things that belong elsewhere, or things that need mending? Make notes in your notebook about the things that need mending. We’re not going to stop to do that right now, we’re on a mission!

Make Money Online with Pareto, Productive Web Design | Time is Money

“Time is Money.”

That’s how the old saying goes. It’s even more true for internet businesses.

Retail stores have about 3-10 minutes to get and keep a shopper’s attention. Online it’s more like 3-10 seconds. Thirty seconds, tops.

So, if you are selling products or services on the internet, I invite you to consider two things:

  • How slow does your page load?

Internet customers are fairly fickle people, until you catch their attention. So, if you are after new customers, and aim at getting them through the internet, you’d better pay attention to this one.

If your site takes more than 3 seconds to start showing something useful (and I don’t mean AdSense!), your potential customers have already hit the back button to see who’s next on the search results page. Sites with flashy graphics and animations are fine for rock bands and celebrities where the viewers whom visit the sites will wait around for the load time. But for e-Commerce, including pro bloggers, internet shops, and eBay moguls - trade the flash for the cash, will ya?

  • How much time are you wasting on tasks that don’t pay off?

Pareto’s Law has stood the test of time. Doesn’t ring a bell? “The 80/20 rule.” That better?

The principal behind the 80/20 rule, f.k.a Pareto’s Law breaks down to this: 20% of the effort (or people) produces 80% of the results. And the converse is also true.

In the arena of business, it stands fairly consistent. 20% of the companies hold 80% of the wealth. Twenty percent of your customers are responsible for 80% of your income. 80% of your effort produces 20% of your results. And 20% of your effort, produces 80% of your results.

So, when you take a look at your analytics, and figure out what your top 20% income producers are, and your top 20% time wasters are - it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you what to do. Eliminate your biggest time wasters. Get interns or assistants to handle the middle 60%, and you focus 80% of your attention on the 20% that you do best, to supercharge your results.

Seriously, folks. With just these two tweaks, you could raise your business by six-figure dollar signs. Or at least have enough to hire that multi-talented graphic/web designer/business coach/freelance writer/dancing photographer you’ve always wanted! ;)
