Today I was visiting with a web designer and graphic artist that I’m pleased to know. I was picking his brain about his pricing strategy, and he was picking my brain about SEO.

I do SEO, and I actually kick some serious buttocks on search engine ranking and search marketing. I don’t usually think about the process or the method, or the technique of what I do when I’m optimizing a blog or a website.

In an effort to break what I do down, I want to create a free eCourse on search engine optimization. And I want to deliver the lessons in a variety of ways, so as to hit multiple learning styles.

If you would like to join in the fun and take a free ecourse on how to optimize your own site, click the words “Click Here” in the green box at the top of the page and join the mailing list!

This will be a Search Engine Optimization basics course. There will be more advanced lessons available free to Coaching Club members. I may make said course available for purchase by non-members. We’ll see.

Restructuring a Disorganized Organization

Comments (0) Published by Meg_Meyer on February 18, 2008 at 08:06 PM in Business Coaching, Search Engine Optimization, business, site business

One of the things I’ve helped clients with, in my Business Coaching Business is restructuring and re-organizing tasks and employees for a happier, and more efficient company organization.

I’m employing the same strategies in my business(es) this year.

I have three main business websites, and a few niche sites. I also write for various other publishers on the web & design and edit websites. (And that’s not including the live classes!)

I made a big mistake - I was covering the same topics on more than one of these sites.

Ok, it’s not the end of the world, but it does dilute my brand and confuse potential clients. And when it’s effecting YOUR bottom line - you tend to fall into one of two categories.

  1. You become overwhelmed and productivity screeches to a silent halt. Then you hire a Professional Coach like myself to help you and your business get back in the game.
  2. Or you recover from the “ouch” of “I could do that better.” Then you analyze your analytics ;) and restructure for (hopefully) better results.

I was first considering giving up some parts of my business. But then, I realized - I love my variety.

So, here’s how I’m restructuring the online portion of my business. Learn from my mistake & restructure your niche sites in a way that makes sense to the people who are looking for the unique products or services that you offer.

Take a Look at the End Result

Chances are, you have an end result that you want from your website, blog, or online business. It could be to build an opt-in mailing list. It could be to gain exposure for your art or craft. It could be to show off to your friends. Or it could be making money.

Different reasons, different audience, and each with a defined goal.

When you put up your first website or blog, it likely is as multi-faceted as you are. Which is good. As a person, it’s good to have more than one interest!

But in a website, or for a business - unless you’re a department store - it’s better to specialize & define your niche. As much as I resist having my time pigeonholed into certain activities or categories - for the purpose of allowing my audience, my prospective members, my clients to find me - it makes it easier on them.

And if you want sustainable, residual income, you’ve got to think about what’s best for the people that will keep you in business, more than about your self and your own ego.
